yes it would lessen the surprise but its fun enough to play them when it is released.
i wish they would have a weekly update at their site that would say stuff like "this week our programmers took a shot at the weather effects and are about 80% finished with the testing of a few wether parameters and we are looking into more diverse weather types in the future"
or like "here are a couple screenies of a new trade system were testing"
at least let us in on what they are working on so we can add early input.
That'd be nice, but we just tend to get Gaile in here saying stuff like,"Yeah, we've got some BIG stuff coming." and "That might happen, but I'm not telling you. Hehehe..." (Remember the bear incident anyone? Gaile said it was some kinda deformed groundhog or something.) Lol, no offence there Gaile. You know we all love you and we're not just using you to get to the Guild Wars.
Anyway, where are ya Gaile? We miss you!

Lightbulb My suggestions

I have played GW the last three BWEs and love it, can't wait for release!

That being said, here are some suggestions. I know some of them have already been posted so just consider them additional votes.

1. I would like the ability to name my pet. It is difficult to know who's pet died when you have four rangers with snow wolves in the team. I thought they were listed in the same order as their owner but I found out that they're not in any order.

2. I would like to be able to give my pet commands, such as sit, stay, attack, back off. There is no way for me to protect them once the fighting starts so paying a DP for them doesn't really seem fair.

3. Have any pre-sear quest and quest items drop off once you've gone through the academy. I can never recall which ones I can't do once I'm in post-sear.

4. I know this has been brought up numerous times.....stop putting the emotes in the dialog. If you are close enough to see the person dancing, laughing or whatever you don't need to read about it; and if you're too far away, what do you really care what they're doing.

5 Have the ability to delete quest from the log. Sometimes I just don't want to bother doing a quest I've accepted but it just clogs up my log forever. I'm willing to take a SMALL penalty for this.

6. Being able to see the character stats on the character page, before I pick one, would be a big help.

7. The dialog box for the ID and Salvage kits are in the way. I have a hard time seeing the item I want to work with.

8. A description of what the salvalged item can be used for would be helpful, I'm hoping this information will be in the user guide. Then I would know which one of my guild mates to offer it to.

9. A way to uncustomize an item so it can be sold. I spend alot of gold and salvaged items on them to then have to throw it away because I can't do anything with it.

10 This one is just petty.....allow more of the armour to accept the dye. My husbands elementalist is dying his armour orange which clashes really badly with the purple he can't get rid of. I'm the "fashion police" for my guild and this is actually a fun subject for me (let the burning commence).

11. A larger choice of body, hair, face aspects ....both color and style. It would be nice if male characters could add facial hair. Right now everybody looks the same.

12. Character races elves, dwarfs, halflings, gnomes, etc. would add to the fantasy idea.

Well, that's all for now. These are just some of the ideas I wrote down this past BWE. I'll post more after the April BWE if I have any.

Thanks for listening.

Default Immersion

I really like the changes on appearance of prince and prisoners. One thing I think would enhance the immersion feel of the cut scenes though would be voice-overs. I find myself torn between watching and reading. Don't know the technical probs involved with languages, actors, etc., but wouldn't even need lip-synch as far as I'm concerned.

I do mostly PvE and love the story line (altho I think the prince a heroic idiot), but I really appreciate the PvP intro in the academy. However, I would ask youall to put your heads together and come up with a little bit better "immersion" for the academy experience. Just brainstorming here --
How about a cinematic "briefing" (after characters have waited to get into academy) with those about to PvP, colored capes on, within the cut scene (as is done on some of the missions) with a sergeant explaining the "gladiatorial training" about to unfold and reassuring a speedy healing if killed during the "training". After the PvP, the whole group receives another "briefing" cut scene "critiquing" their PvP training and then telling them their training must be cut short due to build up in Char activity. All the participants are to work as one big group north of the wall (where that one quest for two players was). All then set out (in or out of a cut scene), kill a few monsters, only to have all death and destruction released, i.e., the Searing, where all on the "mission" die a firey death. Next scene is "hospital tent" where healer rezes group (could even be a grown up Gwen if enough time has gone by) where characters then "wander" out of tent into the post-searing Ascalon as is done now.

Btw, I agree with the guy I read a couple of months ago who stated he hated Guild Wars because he now didn't want to play any of his other numerous games.... Anxiously awaiting end of April. Keep up the good work.

When they come out with the weather effects do you think it could modify some player parameters? Because obviously the less used ranger could benefit w/ weather (maybe higher percentage of miss... not much like 2-5% but still). And maybe make casting times a bit longer if the weather is horrendous? It would be a nice take at least

Yes, and on snowy days, elementalists get an edge on cold damage and less on fire, rainy could be lightning ect. I don't know much about other classes thus far, but I'm sure they could also get some benefits and disadvantages from the weather, which, I might add, once again adds to the whole strategy idea of the game. Knowing what to use in what weather.

First of all, hi, im new to the forums but have been playing guild wars the last 3 beta weekends.
How about a new type of Guild vs guild match ?
In the middle of the map there is a treasure chest (containing an item, which could be rarer the faster you win the round ?)you must escort an animal (not sure what type) to the treasure and get him to take it back to your base, while the other team has to try take it back off you by killing your team and fixing their animal to it, to try get it back to their base.

also, how about an item that shows the class of a monster, what skills etc so its easier for those using SoC ?

lastly, in the next expansion pack have 2 more classes-
Rouge
assasin skills- fast critical strikes etc

bard skills- maybe like tactics from warrior but to greater effect ?

Martial artist skills- uses hand to hand combat, disabling skills and dodges etc

Shifter
Beast transformation skills-allows shifter to transform into a beast (wraith to counter spell casters, huge bear thing to counter warriors etc)

Otherworldly creatures skills- allows shifter to transform into creatures which cause a hex/boost.(angel-heals friendly units in area for xx, demon- causes enemies within range to get knocked down, and suffer xx chance to miss attacks for the next 10 seconds etc)

Creature ritual- shifter transforms into creatures which cause bonuses/hexes, while performing ritual(ritual cannot be performed while moving, so he has to stay still to effect)

I would REALLY love to see an assasin in the character creation ranks ^^

NICE SUGGESTIONS
nothing i dont agree with but still some i would add
but overall you hit it perfect
i cant see anything wrong with what you said!
-------------------------------------------------------

there should be an ingame recorder like in half-life 2 and it should have a format that wont be crappy and/or take too much space up and if its only readable by the GW engine then i think they should make it to where you can watch movies without having to sign in to the game
but i would hope that it would save it as a format that is readable by most media viewers like winamp and media player
and they would also need to let you choose the quality/size of what ur recording

Exactly what i was thinking but in order for it to bee "fairly fair" the weather effects cant be repetetive. and VERY important,::: you should be able to tell if there is "a storm a'commin'" so if you go out side (see my suggestion about adding pubs and solial meeting places) and you see clouds forming and wind is blowing your cape, you can count on there probably being a storm and although all the signs point to certain weather, it might not even happen.
just like in real life, if it looks like its gonna storm really hard, it might just have a 5 minute shower or maybe not rain at all. this game would rock with weather and i personally think it shouldn't be over looked
and if they do choose to do it, they REALLY need to be sure not to do it in a bad way such as make it rain a little here and there. they need to have snow storms hurricanes tornadoes( maybe viewable only in the distance but would still be rather AWESOME with grass being blown and you would be able to faintly see things getting massacred by the tornadoe) it needs fog, april showers, heavy rainfall and, i may be going too far here even though, if this is done, GW would be SO GREAT for, if they added................. on their website...........
A WEATHER FORECAST!
imagine how awesome it would be to go oline and look at the weather forecast for the game! this is just an idea and as i have said may be a little too much but i would enjoy it.

Ok, this last event was my first time playing the game. Don’t get me wrong I read a great deal about the game character system for weeks, so I understood the attribute system to some degree and had a character planed. Yet, I still was a little confused upon logging in. However, obsessive reading of FAQ’s and site information before playing a game is rare. Most people I know purchase a game, install it, and start playing the game before even opening the manual that comes with it, I can’t imagine what it must be like for these people to begin playing Guild Wars. The pop up “help” windows I found to be of marginal help. Thus it would be nice to have a walk through first quest (optional of course, so as not to annoy vets), which explained basic movement, using skills, attacking, etc. The starter quest would need to be auto run also, so I don’t have to go looking for it.

Ok, so lets talk about what I found confusing.

1) At start I really had no clue how the quest system worked; a little more explanation as to how the system actually works concerning talking to townsfolk, acquiring the quest, and then completing the quest.

2) Some of the basic key board commands. Target next monster I only found out to be tab after accidentally hitting it (ironically out of habit to toggle combat mode). Also, a brief explanation as to what and how basic keyboard hotkeys such as movement, call target, attack, show other, etc are. For instance I learned that ctr+space would call a target by overhearing a conversation in Lion’s Arch.

3) Map travel, also learned this by accident.

4) Salvaging: omg I did not salvage anything until I got to yak’s bend because I did not know what it did, how it worked or why I should do it.

5) Crafting, had to resort to off-game resources to figure that one out. Hell, resources I originally believed were only dropped by mobs as an actually resource item (ie. A bold of cloth)

6) General feeling of being lost at the begging. I know that this unavoidable and part of starting a new game, however I felt lost all through pre-searing, and really only began gaining my bearing by the time I reached the first prince quest.

7) Finding skills: I had no clue how to locate skill trainers from any in game information. Everything I know about locating a skill trainer came from off-game player sites, and some of the information was deceptive, for example Ascalon settlement. Sounds like a city/map marker to me, but I only found out that it was not by talking to many NPC’s many of which had irrelevant information. So, some system like a sage that could help you locate a trainer would nice.

At the moment, that is all that I can remember being confusing.

Now onto another topic, suggestion. I am a long time vet of SB (Shadowbane for those who have never heard of it) and the one thing that drives me crazy about UBI/Wolfpack (the publisher/devs) is that the information on the game site is inaccurate and often useless, not to mention rarely updated. It is hard, and frustrating to build a character with inaccurate information about the skills you have access to. Let me give you an example:

Quote:
DISCIPLINE
 Discipline Fortitudes now reduce damage to 50% of the cap regardless of the Power Rank
 Significantly reduced the range of Balefume
 Point the Way In now lasts for 60 seconds
 Reduced the range of Crimson Feast

CLASS
 Increased the Sword Power Ranking for Rangers
 The Necromancer Pet Summon ability can no longer be interrupted
 The Wings of the Seraphim's poweraction sort order has been updated
Ok lets look at this shall we. “Significantly reduced the range of Balefume,” so we know that the range has been reduced, but how much is significantly. What is the new range of Balefume. “Increased the Sword Power Ranking for Rangers,” ok the sword power ranking has been increased. But by how much has it been increased and what has it been increased to? Without, specifics on an update it is nearly impossible to know what you are getting into when using that power.

Accurate patch notes, accurate up to date information about “characters/class/profession” is critical to veterans of most games, as it allows them to build new characters and understand what it is they might be facing and how to react to it. Basically, I am asking that the devs of guild wars keep accurate, thorough, up to date information about their game on their web site. You don’t have to explain how to do everything in the game, but an official listing of all the skills and what they do/cost/require for each class would be very nice for those seeking power through knowledge. And please when something is changed in a patch or update make an accurate and thorough official announcement. Ok /rant off, I realize I could be preaching to choir here but just in case I’m not I wanted to give the GW devs a warring about what can really make many gamers frustrated.

-Thanks

ok I posted a long one over on Page 10 and I still have more to add...

Being able to switch targets while casting (this has been mensioned before) if someone could tell me a valid reason why you can't then I wouldn't want this so much. Until then, it makes sense to be able to switch the target to avoid wasted casting time. This isn't fair to players with skills that have long casting times.

There are tons of skills that involve the energy of another, so why can't we view an opponents energy (PvE and PvP) when we can see their health. If there is a way to, and there really should be because again it's not fair to people with those skills (mesmers especially), please let me know how to do it and I apologize for suggesting things already implemented.

More body options and character customization. It's cool the way each character looks, but when all female elemtalists look identical and all male monks look the same...even with all the features already available...it really takes away from the experience. I know the capes, armor, and current customize options help quite a bit...but not enough. Some simple changes already mensioned by other people would really help.

Those are a bit more important than the following, which are more 'it would be nice if...' options.

Special events (other than tournaments). This could be as simple as Prince Rurik coming to Ascalon or a surge in charr attacks. Things just to add some realism to Tyria.

Weather/climate conditions would be nice, as well as day/night transitions, and having them affect the characters would be even better....but I doubt anything like this would be implemented in time, and at best would be included in an expansion. It is something I think this game would really benefit from, however.

More information available throughout would make things go smoother. All those Enchanted Lodestones (among many others) could use a simple sentance such as 'an item saught after by collectors' and crafting items could use a tad more info other than 'common crafting item' though knowing that it is a crafting item is all you really need. Some NPC's with information would help out on quests, and could perhaps give you hints on locations of things or other NPC's, so you at least have a small idea where you are going instead of wandering aimlessly.

It seems most of the ideas being posted are quite common, so I would hope to see a lot of them implemented. After all, it is us who will ultimately determine the success of the game (a little late now that most of us have pre-ordered lol...)

this touches base on one of my suggestions
i came up with a few ideas on more capes and when a guild raises enough money, they will be able to buy an extra cape accessory
and if said event happens, the members of that guild can have two capes on at once.
now i understand that some poeple wont want more than one cape or a certain cape or anything else
so there should be an option/slot/dropdownbox or something in the inventory window that would allow you to choose and customise which cape you wear
BUT YOU MUST BE WEARING AT LEAST ONE CAPE AT ALL TIMES
you should be able to customise the length of them as well

prices would be something like this:

1st cape: 1,000g
2nd cape: 10,000g
3rd cape: 20,000g
4th cape: 30,000g
5th cape: 35,000g
6th cape: 40,000g
--------
the cape types would include:
---------
head== face mask (with ragdoll)
chest==kinda like those ones used early in the developement
arms== can be from wrist to elbow, wrist to shoulder, or elbow to shoulder
back== can choose from either default, a cape with a big collar like those count dracula ones or whatever, or a samurai one being held up by tied together sticks held in the pants
waist(front and back)==loincloth type can be very long or very short etc.
waist(sides)==hang on the thighs
legs== can cover outer side and hang from the knee or cover 360 degrees of ankle and hang from knee
there can be more but i cant think of any atm
if you see a person covered in these "markings of alliance", you will know that their guild has worked hard and is devoted to its members.
i drew a couple scetches of a FEW of the suggested and remember that THESE ARENT ALL OF THEM
also remember that YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHANGE SIZE FROM VERY SMALL TO LONG ENOUGH TO TOUCH THE GROUND AND EVEN COLIDE WITH IT
that means the facial mask too

here are a few cape ideas scetched

tell me what you think
and i really want to know if gaile is still reading these forums and would like to hear his opinion on this

Just want to add my 2 cents about the last beta. I would suggest as others have above that the targeting feature be fine tuned. I noticed in this beta and the last two that if you target one creature and attack it then you hit your space bar, you will actually run towards the spot that you had last selected with your space bar prior to attacking the creature. This is extremely frustrating to be standing right next to your opponent only to run backwards or past them because you had selected a spot, either by accident or on purpose, just before, during, or after you battle your foe. So please "fix" the targeting feature.

I also would love to see "free mouse look" in the game since I come from the fps genre of games like Quake, MoHAA, etc. It would be nice to use the classic WASD layout with the free mouse look in the game. That is one of the reasons I love this game because it is not a true rpg but has some fps qualities that make this game somewhat of a hybrid...a really good one at that. So please add free mouse look to the game because the "hold down right mouse button to turn" feature is an annoying way to turn!

Another idea that maybe others have asked about, I would like to see a hud highlight current target feature, for example, like a small arrow/diamond/triangle above the head or maybe even a small name or change of color or aura of the character you are targeting. I noticed it was very hard to distinguish what creature or foe I was targeting because the only indication was the name of the creature at the top of the screen. The problem is when there are 2 or more of those same creatures in your line of sight and both are standing very close to each other. It becomes a frustrating eenie meenie minie moe game to try and tell who the "real" target is.

One more thing, I would like to see the mini map have more user friendly things. It would be nice to be able to click on targets in the mini map and then my character automatically runs to that point and starts attacking. Being able to place markers within the minimap and on the big map would be nice too. I currently take screenshots and edit them to place my own markers. It would just be nice if this was built in to the game GUI.

Lastly. I sometimes like to take notes. So would it be possible to add a notebook to the GUI to allow me to jot down some stuff about my travels in the game. Of course I could do it with a pen and paper. It would just be so much better to be able to do it within the game.

Thx everyone at ArenaNet for making this wonderful game. I intend to stick with this game awhile because I think it already is a "classic". Excuse me while I carry on and guard the lands of Ascalon....

Connecting suggestion -

It would be great if when you are connecting to a PvE mission if you could see the load status of all the members in your party so you dont think people's computers crashed at the start of a mission. (They had this for Command & Conquer - kinda old game I spoze.) It would also be nice if there were a way to get out of a mission without all dying and without traveling (and leaving your group) back to the staging point. That way if someone has dialup you can drop them and go get someone else. :P Seriously though, if someone did drop, you wouldnt have to disband the team you already have if somone drops.

I believe she is a she...but that's a good point. Are you still with us Gaile? I know there have been like 2098760439856 posts but a small reply here and there would help us to at least think we are being heard...

And no using 'I got Gwenned!' as an excuse, even though we all know you did lol...

I just thought of another one! You know when there are clickable items on the ground or enemies close to eachother and you move your mouse over them and they make a list? Well, half the time I go to click on something in that list (like an enemy) the list shuffles around. It is really frustrating when I am trying to target specific objects/entities. Maybe if once the list poped up, it would be stuck in that order and if enemies die, their name turns from red to white so you dont waste a spell or fumble around trying to target healer entities. ><

Of all the targeting suggestions mentioned this one seems to be the easiest way to fix almost everything in one fell swoop. The chase the target game is no fun and, if there was no more of that, there would be a lot less complaints about targeting.

Thanks again for the great game. I can't wait till the 15th, then 27th then waking up from 35 hours of straight play, or till sleeping on the keyboard.

It might be nice to have the "henchmen," NPC, solo party, ect. guys to have a basic chat responce that would help out a bit so you csn be like, "How do I get to (insert place here)?" and they respond, "I think it's north." or something like that. I've seen some autoresponse IM bots like this and I bet this could be implemented into Guild Wars to make it a little more solo friendly.
NOTE: You should be able to toggle it on and off if you have other human players in your party. (that might get annoying if the NPCs responded to EVERYTHING you know?)

Default Targeting Problems

The other way to fix the targeting difficulties is to take out the feature that makes you automatically run toward the enemy you've clicked on or attacked. If you actually had to press W and run forward until you got into range to hit the target you've selected, all these problems would go away.

This way my Warrior Monk could stand on a ridge and lob Bane Signets at enemies in a valley without constantly trying to run forward and get himself in trouble.

I have to disagree there. My Warrior Necro runs to the target when I double click on them, and runs into casting range when I single click and activate a skill. My Monk Ranger attacks when I double click and casts her spells, all healing, when I single click and activate a skill. There is no crazy science. Just a little button control.

I like the auto run feature and I think you would if you applied a little different approach to you fighting style.
